I've downloaded Avast anti-virus, installed it, restarted the computer, then ran the scanner. Yeah, then I was so unsure what to do, so I selected delete all. So it deleted all infected files. Then it asked me again that blah blah is in the windows folder, still not knowing what I was doing, I selected delete all once more.

After some time scanning and deleting, it asked me again, but this time, it can't delete the file, nor repair it, so i just clicked ignore. It continued scanning without deleting. After the scan, then when I log onto the computer, many files don't work anymore. WHAT HAVE I DONE TO MY DESKTOP?!!! I tried to reinstall or uninstall but I can't coz I there are errors popping out.

I think I messed up with the WINDOWS folder
Is there some way I can fix the WINDOWS folder without reformatting?

You could always try reverting back to a system restore point?

If that fails, you could try a repair install. Instructions can be found here: Repair XP
