Default Compressing video files.

Hi there

I have about 25gb of video files(mpeg) I want to store away. I have a 4gb sd card. Is it possible to compress the 25gb files to fit the 4gb card? Ive never actually compressed any files before but I know its possible.

Can anyone recommend a free program to use? When compressed does it keep the original quality? Is 25gb down to 4gb too much?

Appreciate any help.

cheers

If your trying to use 7Zip or WinZip or WinRAR your wasting your time.

The only way you are going to compress the mpeg files is to convert to them a XviD or DivX format.

I use the freeware AutoGK to do this with single definition digital tv shows. A 3 gig file (about 60 minutes) crunches down to 700 meg file with out much loss of detail or artifacting.

This will take up to 120 minutes depending on the speed of your computer...

AutoGK Homepage - THE tool for XviD / DivX conversion

Edit: The app installs a tutorial on it's use, which a shortcut can be found in Start / Programs / AutoGK / Tutorials...
