Default stopr error c0000135 winsrv not found

Hi,

My friend's computer (XP) would not boot into windows. The computer would turn on and stop at the wall paper - couldn't get windows to load. We tried to reinstall XP - the installation literally took hours; jut crawled along. When it finally completed we got a message to the effect of: stop error c0000135 winsrv not found. It recommended restarting - nothing same message.

Please help! They are senior citizens, who cannot afford to send their computer out. What can I do? My computer knowledge I would rate below expert but above beginner -somewhere near "comfortable".

Thank you in advance!

P.S. - we believe the computer to be infected with viruses. They didn't have any virus protection on the machine.

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.

Are you stuck in the install stage or once you try to logon you then get the error?

If during the install:

Is the disk you are using to try and install have SP2 on it or another?

Then the computer does that have SP1,SP or SP3 on it?

Is the disk a copied disk or a proper XP disk supplied with a new computer or a retail disk?

Have you tried a repair with the disk to replace the winsrv.dll or try a repair using a diffrent install disk?

You receive a "Stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found" error message after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

I have marked your thread as "Open" for others to input there knowledge.

Jelly Bean.
