Default pc won't boot up after virus removal

First i want to say hi to everyone, just sign in and this is my first post and i really hope someone can help me. A friend of mine brought is computer that was infected with multiple virus.I started cleaning up with multiple programs, now the computer boots up to welcome screen,it shows me the wallpaper image on deskstop then automatically log me out, click on log in and same thing happen again and again. I've tried to boot with xp cd and just before accesing the option screen to either reformat or repair windows i get a "error:0x0000007b" blue screen. I took the hard drive out and put it in my other computer and i run check disk, put it back in and still the same. If i reformat while hook to my other computer will i be able to reinstall windows? I'm really lost here. Computer Dell Dimension E520 Windows xp home oem Thank you!

Hello Josdalton and welcome to the PCHF!

I'm sure the wide experience of our members will be able to pint point the issue, so I'll mark your thread as open to encourage the flow of wisdom

When you boot from the CD, do you get to the Terms and Conditions screen or does it give you the error before, while checking the hardware? (terms and conditions screen is where you are asked to press "F8" in order to accept the terms and proceed with the installation options)

Have a little read of this while you wait:

Advanced troubleshooting for "Stop 0x0000007B" errors in Windows XP

It also depends on the words you receive associated with the 0x07B error.

Some times it can appear to stall or freeze as it is XP I almost expect it to take some time.

Give it a little longer and see if it moves on in the install process.

Although the CD drive or install disk may need a clean or possibly scratched.
