Default PC Start up Issue

Hey there i am very frustrated with my PC. I have an issue with start up. When I push the power button, i need to press a key on my keyboard (anykey) in order for the PC to start booting. Otherwise it does not do anything, does not even send a signal to the monitor, it stays black. This happes before POST and everything. At first i thought the hard Drive was failing so i put in a brand new 250GB drive and a clean install on Win XP. But the same thing happens. I've tried updating the Bios, still no luck. This just started happening one day a few months ago, and I cant figure it out. Please Help Me.

The PC specs:

4yr old HP Pavillion a730n
  • 3.00 Ghz Pentium4 with H/T. NEW CPU Cooler
  • 3.00 GB of PC3200 RAM
  • NEW 250GB SATA Seagate Drive
  • ATI Radeon HD2600XT video card.
  • TrendNet Wireless Card
Please Help Me.

Welcome 4TY3!! Good year to be

A curious problem indeed.....

A question on the BIOS update.. you tried updating the BIOS. For one... did it update successfully?

Which version did you try? sp26760 was the latest I could find, but perhaps there was something else? There are other changes made.

Which RAM did you install? 3x1G or some other combination? You have 4 slots.. be sure that where you installed is from #1. If so, take all the sticks out and try one at a time.

I'll let the clever ones know to come and take a look in marking this as open.

Thanks for your patience

Thanks for the Reply.
Yes the BIOS Update was seccessful, and sp26760 was the driver that i installed.
The RAM. I have 2 sticks of 1GB each and 2 sticks of 512 each total of 3GB.
Ill try playing with that and the keyboard.
I'll be sure to post my results.
Thanks again.
