Exclamation MSN Issue. (I read the sticky.)

I've checked the sticky, and just about every other site claiming to have an answer for this problem.

First off, this occurred out-of-the-blue one night. I didn't change anything. I got back from a party, and my MSN was acting this way.

MSN refuses to let me sign in, most of the time. When I am unable to sign in it gives me error code 81000306. My internet connection is fine, I am able to connect to all MSN and Microsoft websites (as well as MSN on another ID). On occasion, after 3 or 4 tries, it will let me sign in (albeit it takes a minute or two). Once it gets in, it repeats the same error that "You were unable to start a conversation with x." Once I clear the error MSn behaves very slowly. It takes a minute after trying to change my status for it to take effect. People cannot message me unless I message them first, and if I go silent for a minute they are unable to send me messages until I type something again.

However, I was able to create a new MSN account and it worked just fine.

I have tried all the usual stuff: reinstalling, system restore, power cycling modem/router, etc.

Any ideas?

PS: MSN Web Messenger does not allow me to sign in, and Trillian both seems to be affected as well.

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.

This is what I get for the error:

How do I fix error 81000301 or 81000306?

When you try to sign in to MSN Messenger, you may receive the following error message:
  • We were unable to sign you in to MSN Messenger, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your Internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
Try the following to help resolve the situation:
  1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  2. Make sure you have installed the latest version of MSN Messenger.
  3. Make sure you have installed the latest available updates for your operating system. For Microsoft® Windows® operating systems, go to the Microsoft® Windows® Update website.
  4. If you are using a firewall, make sure that MSN Messenger is allowed full access through the firewall. For more information, see the firewall documentation.
  5. Verify the Advanced Connection settings for MSN Messenger.
Notes
  • If your computer is part of a corporate network, contact your network administrator to make sure that the network allows access to the MSN Messenger service.
  • If you use a dial-up connection, the connection may be timing out. Try to connect again later.
I recently had the same issue I could not sugn into any of my accounts.

My fix was to open device manager and stop all messenger.exe processes then I reopened MSN and it worked,I could sign in.

This may of also be caused due to a MSN update.Try an uninstall of all MSN software and try a reinstall.

As you also have a Trillion I recommend you have a system health check.

Please click this:Prework

Follow the instructions then copy and paste the results of Hijackthis and Malwarebytes back here on your thread.

I will then move your thread to the NEW Hijackthis Section in readyness for our excellent Security Team to help you further and give you any fixes that are required.

If you have trouble connecting to the internet or downloading the software then you can use another computer.

Download and save the software files to the computer, then copy the software to a CD/DVD,floppy disk,USB pen drive or even an external hard drive. You can then transfer the software to the problem computer.

You can also run in safe mode with networking if needs be.Restart the computer and repeatedly tap F8 and choose safe mode with networking.

If you need further help please feel free to ask.
