Hi,
I have Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2008 Suite
I'm running it on an HP Pavilion a6250 uk PC running Vista Home Premium.
Before I explain below what has happened, can I just say that I don't really want to cure what is going on, I just want it to go away and let my PC boot up as before.
Because I am considering purchasing a 'Boot-up faster' program from another company, I first yesterday had a look at the Boot Manager part of the Paragon program. I found that it only had two simple options neither of which were what I required, (I was looking for something to control which programs are launched at boot-up), so to the best of my memory, I didn't change anything.
However, I guess that nevertheless I must have changed something because after shutting down the machine I realised that I had forgotten to do something, so I switched it back on again, (after waiting for a short time, to ensure that the shutdown had completely properly). I then had the following problems, which persist today too.
The precise sequence is as follows:
1. Switch on the computer
2. a screen appears listing:
WinVista "HP"
WinVista "Factory_IM"
On this screen, WinVista "HP" is highlighted. I left it like that.
Also on this screen, text is displayed on the righthand side saying: "The PC Booting will be proceeded in 10 seconds" The counter counts down to zero, but then instead of booting, it substitutes another number, maybe 15, counts down to zero again, then again adds another figure, maybe 12 and starts the count-down once again. I have tried waiting patiently, not touching anything, but after counting down from perhaps six different starting figures, with no attempt to boot, have given up. It obviously is NOT going to boot up after zero, in spite of what it says.
3. I then tried pressing ENTER on the above screen. It changed to display the following:
Details:
Hard Disk: 0
Partition: (no entry - I have no partitions)
Primary 00
File System: NTFS
A text saying: "Press ENTER to boot"
So I pressed ENTER. NO response, no result, no change of any kind.
Pressed ENTER again. Nothing. Keypress obviously being ignored.
Pressed ENTER repeatedly. No change, same screen still displayed.
Pressed ENTER then waited two minutes without touching anything - nothing, no bootup.
Pressed and held down ENTER for a short while, then let go - No change, no bootup.
4. Switched computer off, waited a few moments, switched on again, got the same screen as in 2. above.
5. Used arrow keys to select Vista "Factory_IM" and pressed ENTER.
This resulted as follows:
a. black screen with message saying "Windows is looking for files"
b. next a black screen with the usual Microsoft Corporation text at the bottom
c. next a blank blue screen to which was then added the text:
"HP Welcome to the Recovery Manager"
So this screen appears to be originating from the machine, (a Hewlett-Packard, obviously), rather than being generated by Paragon software, (I guess, anyway!).
Further text on this screen said: "Use the program to recover your computer to its original factory condition."
As I didn't know what the consequences of going back to factory condition might be, I then clicked on CANCEL. That then produced the usual, normal, (on bootup), blue screen which says "HP Invents" etc. I was pleased to see that screen, thinking that it would be followed by the rest of the normal bootup procedure, resulting eventually in the normal destop. Not so! The next screen displayed was ... see 2. above! Full circle! No further on, no access to my machine at all.
Now what? Any ideas please, folks? I can't use my machine at all, as it is now.
