Question How can I make my hard drive boot after resiz

Hi Guys,

I resized partitions on my hard drive with partition magic and then xp wouldn't load. All I got on startup was a flashing cursor in the top left corner of my sreen.

I got hold of an old hard drive and hooked it up and loaded xp onto it. I can now start my pc with that new drive and I can access the drive that I repartitioned.

My question is how can I now make my pc boot from my repartitioned drive? When I try to make the pc boot from there, I just get the flashing cursor. Has partition magic damaged some boot file?

Any help on this would be much appreciated. Cheers!

Welcome to PCHF.

I don't know partition magic, but I'd recommend using the Restore Point to a date before the partitioning, unless partition magic has a way of undoing what it did.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I can't use system restore because the c: drive is a newly formatted drive, and the drive I want to boot from is now a secondary drive.

In that case, check your BIOS/Setup for the drive boot order.

Hi, thanks again. I just changed the boot order, but when I try to start the pc with the drive I resized the partitions on, I just get a flashing cursor on a blank screen.

Are you sure your operating system is on the resized drive?
Could partition magic have wiped the data as a result of resizing?

Can you boot into the Safe mode?

If not, you might have to reinstall your operating system onto the resized drive.

Do you think it's possible to put XP onto my resized drive without losing my data, or will it be a full reformat?
