Default Removing PC Angel

Hi there,

I have an Evesham PC, just over 18 months old. It came preinstalled with PC Angel. From I can see, it doesn't have the partition software, but just the registry 'snap shot' part of it I think.

The problem is, when my PC restarts (from manual restart, being turned off or from BSOD) PC Angel loads and it should bring up four full stops on the DOS style screen, then load Windows, but most of the time it doesn't it just brings up two/three full stops and stops - no access on the HDD, nothing.

I can't seem to see it in add/remove programs. I went to msconfig and removed SHVRTF.exe (this is what I believe to be the PC Angel file) from the startup, but nothing it still checked it when I restarted, so I put it back in.

It runs as a process on Task Manager, is closing it down through task manager the problem? I contacted PC Angel's support department a couple of days ago via email, but no reply as of yet.

We be grateful if anyone can help!

Thanks!

Hello,It appears there is not much help for removal of the software,I been searching.

Try going to Start, Run, type in MSCONFIG, under the Startup tab - uncheck PC Angel, click Apply, then OK.

Maybe try one of these:

CCleaner - Home

Revo Uninstaller - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

I will keep looking however the main sugestion I found was to reformat.

JB.

EDIT: Removal of PC Angel will cause you loose your recovery partition and possibly any backup files and data stored on your hard drive.Back up all data before trying to uninstall PC Angel.

Try disabling your antivirus before attempting to remove PC Angel.

Although again the solution is to backup all data and reformat to rid yourself of PC Angel.

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't seem to have a recovery partition. At least not that I'm aware of! I think PC Angel on my PC just does the registry snap shot and that's it.

The thing is, there's no way of removing it in add/remove. Are companies allowed to sell you stuff/put stuff on a PC that can't be removed? The shvrtf.exe file itself is in the system32 folder.

JB - I did the msconfig thang, yet when I rebooted it still came up with "PC Angel . . ." on the DOS style screen!

Looks like reformat/install is going to be the way to go. Lost my Office disc first though, so need to find that as I'd rather not spend another £300!

If I do reinstall from my Evesham DVD with windows on it and the other utilities, will it install PC Angel again?!?!

Thanks once again guys, really appreciated.

London it appears PC Angel is just one big pain in the bottom.

It is possibly to use regedit to disable it but then you may not be able to acess your files.

I am not sure of the Eversham DVD.

However you would only be installing the OS.

Popin the DVD and when it opens close it.Then open computer then right click on the DVD rom drive and choose explore and see what the DVD contains in its folders.

There maybe a hidden partition but again this is PC Angel so you would still have the darn rubbish on your computer.

Why make a software that can cause so much trouble and could block a computers functuality and stop access to your own files is beyond me.Then also do not create a decent help file to rid yourself of it.

Hi

I don't appear to have a partition. As far as i can see I have two drives (C and D) and I can't see any partition. I think I just have the light version, which takes the snap shot of my registry. I restarted my PC half and hour ago and I had to switch it off and on again three times before it would get past the PC Angel part (it also seems to make pressing F8 for safe mode redundant and the only way I can get into safe mode is through msconfig).

I emailed them last Thursday, and have received no reply. I have sent another one to them too. I'm not a PC expert (obviously, that's why I'm here!) but PC Angel seems to be operating outside of windows. So not sure what I can do from there. Something in the BIOS etc maybe?

Thanks once again. This software is proving to be a real pain and PC Angel don't appear to care!

Hello London.

I researched this a fair bit and came up with no idea other than reformat.

PC Angel is terrible it blocks your BIOS,files etc.

If you did not create D: then D: could be your recovery partition or backup shadow copies.

The only fix I see to get rid of it is possibly fitting the HDD as a slave to another computer, format as a slave and then reinstall as main back in origonal computer then format.Backup any files first however PC Angel may stop you doing this.

PC Angel is one big bug and am not even able to find a cure to rid you of this.
