I can't answer all your questions individually but I can definitely recommend one program that lets you burn ANY kind of video file to a dvd (it turns the files into .vob files and such, as on a regular dvd)

"convertxtodvd" program: look it up - you drag and drop video files onto it and click burn. It accepts .avi, .mov, .mpg, .mp4, etc etc - I use it nearly every day.
