Hi Naj, what device are you trying to connect to exactly? and what software are you using?

This could be a number of issues. If the cable works on another device, then this would rule out the cable itself, however the device on the other end may not be. On the PC side, you need to make sure that the correct port speed, data bits, parity and stop bits are set correctly, otherwise you will not be able to communicate with the device on the other side.

Sorry Naj, I'm a little thrown off by this C++ issue. What software are you talking about exactly? There is no way for me to know if this software was even written in C++, the only people that could tell you that would be the original authors of the software. Maybe you could get some clarification from this person that told you why he/she believes it is C++? You can download the Microsoft Package which will resolve any C++ issues in Windows, but not any issues with the application itself. You can download this from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

To me it sounds like a hardware issue, using an incorrect com port #, or the com port is not actually enabled.

Ok ...to be more detailed....this software is actualy a firmware which`s designed to upload (*bin)files from computer to sattelite receiver .
and I tried the other com numbers too,it has like 6 com options but when i change the com # nothing happens, would you tell me please how would I know if the com port is not actually enabled?
In device manager ..in ports(communications Port (COM1) shows in properties enabled and working properly.
and some one adviced me to check the Port settings ...Bits rate 9600, Data bit 8,Parity None,Stop bits 1, Flow control:None...which is same as my pc.

Hi Naj,

So your com port is running on com1. The port settings are default.

Obviously I have no experience when it comes to connecting to sattelite receivers in particular, but I usually use a serial connection to connect to routers, switches, PLC devices etc. Those port settings are quite popular between these devices.

If your running third party software, at least rule out software as an issue. Download: PuTTY Download Page

Run it, click on the Serial radio button (com1 will appear as default), and then click on Open. See if you receive the same or similar error message. What you should at least get is a black window, with a green cursor on the top left hand corner. Depending on the device, you may then receive a prompt.
