Default What is a really good DVD/video converter?

I downloaded "Total Video Converter" and I can't get it to convert the video files from my DVD into a common format such as WMV, MPEG, or AVI, or into sound such as MP3 or WMA, which it says it can do.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Thte files are in a form called ".IFO" which I could only get to play on InterVideo WinDVD, and nothing else.

I'm trying to convert it so I can upload (part) of it on to YouTube, but nothing is working. So, any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have never used the app, as there are better alternatives for converting dvd's.

I believe uploading parts of a dvd is a copyright infringement, and against YouTube's terms of use... YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

To avoid copyright infringement you must lagally own the copyright to the video you wish to convert and providing this is the case
here's some to try... not sure which would be the best but the best thing is that they are all free to use

Convert DVD to Avi and Mpeg using bitRipper
Dvd To Avi Freeware - DVD BACKUP XPRESS, DVD2AVI Ripper FREE, Free DVD Ripper and Burner ...
Download Cool Free DVD to AVI MPEG WMV MP4 iPhone FLV Ripper 5.1 - A useful utility for extracting video and audio streams from DVD discs - Softpedia
Free DVD TO AVI Ripper Download- Rip DVD movie to AVI(DivX, XviD), Convert DVD TO AVI(DivX, XviD) formats.

Once converted you will probably have to use some other software to "cut" the section you require

How about AVS Video Converter - never used it myself but it looks pretty good. Then you could upload to YouTube using Free Youtube Uploader
