Hi,
Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
Every time I insert a disk into my DVD Drive, windows places a shortcut to it
onto my desktop even when I delete it, nothing changes it still comes back.
Any help much appreciated,
GuNtRiX.

Hello Guntrix, welcome to PCHF.
Does this happen with a particular CD, a particular type of CD's (for example DVD's), or all CD's? Also, what version of Windows are you running? |

Hey Guntrix,
Windows doesn't do this natively, but it could be a number of things causing it from installed applications, malware, or the way your autorun has been configured for new cd's. Before looking through each possibility, is there any chance you could post me a screenshot of this icon which should hopefully point us in the right direction (instructions on my sig). If this doesn't point a clue, we'll start with autorun. |

Hey,
I have ran system checks using Spybot - Search & Destroy and AVG 8.0 and both have came up with nothing. I did install this programme called DAEMON Tools Lite . Please look at the attached files, Thanks. |

OK,
If you: - Go to My Computer and right click on your CD/DVD drive and go to Properties. - Click on the AutoPlay tab and you'll see a dropdown box underneath containing several items such as "Music files", "Pictures", "Video files" etc, there are normally around 7 entries in total. Click on each entry one by one and make sure that Prompt me each time to choose an action is selected underneath. I suspect that one or more entries is performing a specific action.
