I'm actually posting on behalf of a friend. Her Firefox uses over 300,000kb at times of memory even with just one page open. I myself can have upwards of 10 tabs open and not go over 65,000kb.

That's not the only problem. Even when she closes Firefox, it remains as a process, still using a heap of memory so she's forced to manually end the process. I doubt it's a problem with the upgrade to Firefox 3 as she's been using it for over 2 weeks without a problem.

RAM is 512mb.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly she should delte temp files/cookies/history.

Secondly tell her to run this:CCleaner - Home

512 RAM should be fine realy but another 512 fitted would be great.

I have just started running FF 3 and no problems with it all.

She may have spyware she needs to run her scans and check.

She may also want to disable some addons see if that improves the situation she can always re-enable if they are needed.

She only has 1 add-on which is adblock so that isn't the cause. Ccleaner removed just under 100mb and still the problem persists. A spyware scan showed up nothing.

What operating system is she using?

What is the process name that is left running?Exact name please.

She's using Windows XP with SP2.

The process name is firefox.exe

Could she try an uninstall of FF3 and install FF2 and see if that stops the hogging?

I know its a bit of a pain but it may help.
