Default mp3 tagging questions

I've been trying to get my library of music organized. 130G, all collected over the last 15 years. Most of it before p2p...I've put a lot of vinyl into it

I've never organized; it's a huge mess. tags cluttered or missing, etc etc

So I spent all day yesterday trying out various programs. I have been using mediamoney as a player- but I can't figure out how to get it to change filenames from the tags properly. I also can't seem to get them to take my paypal to upgrade to "gold" version.

I've tried tag&rename- it mislabeled about a thousand files before I caught it- now I have a huge chunk of tracks with the track title as the track number, and the artist name split in half!!! and the artist's name is the track name for about a third of them- it's gone from being a mess to being an UNHOLY mess...

They don't have a working support forum~I forgot to check on that before I started playing with it~ !like a fool~ I've tried the media monkey forum but all I've gotten is one or two people who say they have the same sort of trouble and no way out of it

I can't spend the next year doing this manually, I have about 30,000 tracks...there's just no way

Does anyone know how I can at least undo the damage tag&rename did to my files? or how to use mediamonkey? Or anyone who can walk me through the use of any other freeware?

I am new to tagging- and this is horrid

specs:
\\
brand new XP sp3
2 external HD- one with 130G music one with 100G music
Itunes installed but unused
mediamonkey in current use
file&rename, fixtunes, foobar installed and ready just in case

anyone? I've been unable to find any help anywhere else yet, but my friend sent me here and said you guys are keen and intelligent about these things/

I've never had this problem, but wouldn't System Restore work in this case?? Of course if it will, be sure and have all the affected drives running when you try it, and hope System Restore was enabled on the slave/external drives in the 1st place.

system restore moves mp3 files back to their original file structure and re-tags them? this is the first time I have ever heard of restore undoing saved information in files.

None of my drives are "affected" by anything. my music FILES have been changed, and it's making it incredibly hard to re-write/modify the tags, and orghanize my collection. I'm sorry if my question didn't make that clear

someone at another forum has suggested godfather. I'm going to try that out for a bit, to see if it helps.

I'm trying to organize and re-tag in as automated a way as possible, without screwing up my music collection. it's been hard to find anything that works!
