Default Windows Live Messenger - Not caching friend's display pictures?

I'm using version 8.5.1 of Windows Live Messenger on my new PC.

My problem is, each morning when I sign in, all my friend's display pictures have reverted to the default as shown in this image:

They will stay like this all day unless I open a chat window with every contact and wait for their picture to appear. If I do this and log out of messenger, then log back in, the pictures remain. It is when I turn off my PC for the night and come back in the morning that they're all default again.

I run Ccleaner every night before I switch off my PC, is it possible that it's clearing some Windows Live Messenger cache or something? I did the same on my old rig with the same version of messenger and I never had this problem. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Vamp-- yes it's entirely posible that CCleaner is wiping a cache of these images--it is also possible it is a setting within Windows Messnger that is doing it.
Do you shut Computer down @ night ?
Some settings within Internet Explorer my be applied to this if you "clear caches at shutdown"-- etc.

I don't IM much so I'm no expert at Windows Messenger.

HI thanks for the response.

I've ruled out Ccleaner as I didn't run it before shutting down last night, and this morning all the images were default again. >: [

I can't find any option within Windows Live or Internet Explorer that could relate to this.

Does your Internet history and typed URL's (in the browser) disappear when you reboot?

Nope. Not unless I run Ccleaner.

Seeing that Windows Messenger is free software-- it may not be worth trying to track down the exact cause... I would un/reinstall -- if that works-- pass on the complaint to Messenger Support.
If not...then we look harder at perhaps AV programs -- or an antispyware app... anything that will affect your cached images-- it is a puzzler-- usually you can't make these things go away if you want to.

How very foolish of me to rule out Ccleaner.

Right now I think it is the exact problem. I have unticked Windows Live Messenger in the applications tab (Ccleaner) however when cleaning it cleans: C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp\MessengerCache

So there's my problem, I just can figure out how to tell Cleaner to not clean this folder since I need it to clean the rest of Temp. Funny thing is I never had this problem on my old PC which I just recently moved from.

Any ideas?

UPDATE: How very foolish of me to post without looking in options. :P

There is an option is CCleaner to EXCLUDE certain folders, I just added the MessengerCache folder to the list and I think that's my problem fixed. I still don't understand why this never happened on my old rig.

Thanks guys.
