Sorry to drag this old thread up from the depths, but here's the latest. i'm still having problems although it now seems more random than before (not crashing just while on Yahoo).
The Event Viewer reports the following message:
Faulting Application:Firefox.exe version 1.9.0.3105,
Faulting Module MSVCR80.dll, version 8.0.50727.762
Fault Address:0x0004ef67

I've uninstalled firefox 2 and installed firefox 3 but still I get the same fault. Any Ideas on putting this right?

Hi Ian,

I think we're looking at a "plug-in" - "extension" issue. Go through disabling each extension until the problem stops ... then try installing the latest version of the offending extension or just disable it.

After much messing about it appears that AVG 8's Safe search has been the culprit although, fair to say it may not have been the only cause. I've not had a problem since disabling it.
So for now, I'll consider it fixed.
