Default "Problem applying profile" with wireless on laptop

Hello,

I was working of a friends laptop a few weeks ago and found it to be loaded with virus/trojans/etc... The friend said they didn't have anything that needed to be kept on the laptop and it was ok to restore the laptop, which is a Dell Inspiron 1505. So I used the Dell system restore utility to bring it back to the initial state it was upon purchase. Everything was working fine until a few days later when trying to connect to the home wireless router, an error would come on the laptop and say "problem applying profile". This problem doesn't happen anywhere else, just on the home wireless (linksys router). So at that time, I assume it is a setting on the laptop with the router, but everything seems fine. There are 2 other laptops in the home and neither of them have this problem. The only way I've found to resolve the problem is to do a "repair" on the wireless network connection, but this will only work for a few days then the problem will come back and have to repair again. I've been googling for days now and cannot find out the cause not how to fix it for good. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Scott

Hey bud, are you using the Dell provided connection screen manager or the Windows Wireless connection manager?

Have you tried using the Windows Wireless console to connect instead? Disabling the Dell one, go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > scroll to "Wireless Zero Config" and enable the service and see if it connects better

I had not tried this yet as I've always heard that if you can go without using the windows wireless console that you are better off... But that may or may not be true, I can give it a try to see if it works or not though...

I've personally had much better experiences using the Windows wireless configuration then third-party ones
