what is a good video editing software for pc that will edit and be able to add good effects all in a easy interface. I want something a little more versatile than windows movie maker.

The best video editing software that I recommend that combines user friendly-ness and low price is Adobe Premiere Elements. About $60 at Staples and Best Buy. You can often catch it on sale online.
I have never personally used Sony Vegas Movie Studio, but it's the same price and gets pretty good reviews.
Avid Free is a free video editing software, but the learning curve is extremely steep, and not likely that the beginner will easily find his way around.

iMovie for Apple is pretty good, but you need a mac. Don't spend the extra on a mac if Windows XP will do a basic job for you every now and then.
