Default Thunderbird issues - "An error occured with the POP3 mail server."

Ok this is an annoying issue that's been bothering me for weeks. I've mostly just been ignoring it but it's really starting to drive me crazy. I have a bunch of different email addresses set up on my website and I use Thunderbird to send/recieve mail with all of them. On this computer only though, it gives me that error message every time I try to send/recieve mail. I have every single setting exactly the same as my laptop, but I don't get the message there. What's weird is I can still send/recieve messages no problem, but it likes to give me that error message anyway. I've completely uninstalled and removed all traces of thunderbird and reinstalled and it's still doing it. I just can't figure out what the problem is. Supposedly it's because it's not set to secure connection for output, but neither is my other computer and it works fine. Plus, setting it to secure doesn't fix the problem.

Hi rory, this is from mozilla help
If your settings are correct, a firewall may prevent Thunderbird from connecting to your mail server. Try disabling your firewall if possible and see if that resolves your problem. If so, you’ll need to consult your firewall’s documentation for more information about how to configure it to allow Thunderbird access to the Internet.
This email error may occur if your account settings are incorrect, but it seems to occur most often if you have a firewall that’s blocking Thunderbird traffic specifically or any traffic that uses port 110 (which is used by POP3 to retrieve email).
