ok so i sacked off dvd maker for a moment and tried Express Burn, and after like an hour n 20 mins in it stops saying this, but i have no clue what it means, as i have burnt this film with dvd maker and its fine, apart from the screen size etc, anyone know what this means..?

Er? Apology for what? O.o

Concerning the problem at hand, if I recall correctly, it means you ran out of space on the DVD, different encoders/burners will output video of different sizes/formats.

I personally used to use Premiere to output all video I made, and then I would pull it through Adobe DVD Pro or w/e it's called nowadays to put on a DVD.

I'm trying to think of free alternatives you could use.. I remember working with a Roxio or Nero DVD burner/converter as well as another video editor.. but can't recall the name at the moment hmm..

ok, when i convert the downloaded avi file with WinAVI Converter, these are the options i can choose, are these correct, or can you see anything that woulkd be causeing the lack of picture width on the final burnt disc..?

ok, so seems i figured it out to get it widescreen, only problem when it played is it seemed jst a tad jumpy, sound was fine, pic quality was fine, but seemed like the film needed to speed up jst a little, wasnt too obvious, but was to me. any ideas... think its to do with the frames fer second.
