Default Unformat NTFS

Fooling around with Norton and lost the partition
Decited to reformat the disk with XpPro that had data from Quicken 2000 and Word files
Thought we had a back up on another drive; but the backup was on the disk w/o the
partition.
Software to unformat or to locate those file or are they gone?

Nice of you to say hello, either way, welcome to PCHF,

If you've already re-written on the partition/HD,especially if you installed an OS, every thing's more then likely gone. If you did a full format, then they are most definitely gone, if you did a "quick" format, then you might still have a chance to recover *some* files but it's highly unlikely.

Thanks for the reply
Sorry for not doing the intro; not familiar with this venue.
Was doing this for a friend who owns an insurance Co.
Build and install his computers in all his offices in Arizona
Am actually retired military and Law Office Administrator
Do this to keep busy
Never occured to me that he backed up on the same disk!

I stopped the install just before most files were written
Just used a download this AM called "Salvage Data" and did a raw data search
Seems to have found some files or fragments of qd? files - quicken 2000
and some pdf files.along with a number of other files i.e. dll etc
Now requires a KEY 179.00 to retreive them.
What say you? I was not sure if a format did complete erase or just the
bit that identified the file location. This is a 40 gb HD and on 9 GB have been
used for this "install"
Thanks again for your reply.

You mean you downloaded a "trial-version" of the software-- and now they want $179.00 for the key to unlock it ?

I'd find another program.
This one's made by the same people who make CCleaner-- I have never used it, but CCleaner is excellent... and they are both freeware (donations are accepted)

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File Recovery - Home

I would do some reading before use-- for any program of this type.
How to use Recuva - Piriform Forums

PS-- I will move this thred to the general software forum... this is supposed to be for introductions.
