Default Speedfan temps jump from the 30s to 50s in an instant

I have installed Speedfan on my laptop (specs below) and one of the temperatures (Remote Temp) will be at 38 or so degrees, like the rest, and if I start a program like Micrografx Picture Publisher it jumps to 52 or so (the highest was 55c). Why is this and what is "Remote Temp" referring to? Also, what (if possible to tell) are the others (screencap included).
Specs:
Fujitsu Lifebook L470
Intel Pentium 2 366mhz
192mb RAM, 64 onboard with a 128mb stick
10gb Intel Travelstar 4200rpm HD (doesn't have a temp sensor in it)
No fans though it does have a heatsink on the left side, should I get an external USB fan that clips on to the heatsink grill?
Other specs available on request
