hi folks i hope to hell one of you may be able to help with this
i have lots of doubled up files and have recently got hold of a 500gb external storage
is there a program out there that will sort out doubled files and move them into pre defined
marked files (EG: all jpg to folder marked pics or all WAV to folder marked audio)
i dont want to loose any pics as they are invalueable so a preview facility would be a great help as well as a rename to stop duplicate conflicts

What doubled them?
You have to be really careful with duplicate file sorting-- sometimes 2 copies are needed-- and the software does not choose carefully.

well to my embaressment i copyed most of them becouse as i had new photoes i added them to new folders and after a system error which caused a windows reset i had a mad dash to copy all files over just in case i had floaters left into my other partition basicaly i created backup on backup on backup and now i realy need to sort it as it is a lil out of hand
the only way i can do it is with (insert name here) program and just not be so silly in my noobishness nextime

Never been in that kind of spot...
I would consider two ways:
you could use a third-party program--unfortunately, most of the ones I look at are shareware (paid) This one compares files in about 8 different ways-- so perhaps no mistakes are made

Or you could save one backup copy-- & just wipe and reinstall
this seems drastic ... and it is--but at least all it will cost you is time
PROVIDED you have all your software on disc/backed up/keep receipts for programs.
