Default adobe reader 7.0

Hi,

I am a first time user here, thanks in advance for the help.

My first issue was i couldn't open a 'PDF' file, I reciever the an error has occured and explorer needs to close...tell microsoft...send...don't send.

I was told to download the lates version of adobe reader, to do that I needed to remove the older version. When I went to add/remove programs and clicked remove for adobe reader 7.0.8 I got a message that said " This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that it is a valid windows installer patch package".
I went to Adobe support area but did not find anything there to help.

My O.S. is Windows XP Home Edition.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Hotwrench500

Welcome to PCHF hotwrench500,

This is a very common and painful problem that is caused by the Windows Installer Service. The best solution is to use Windows Install Clean Up to remove the previous installation. After you "clean up" the previous install, you will be able to reinstall the program that is giving you the problem.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

I gave up on Adobe reader after loading the most recent version. It slowed my computer to a complete crawl even after implementing changes suggested on Adobe forum. I loaded Foxit Reader; smaller program that works faster with no problems.
