Default connect with Pidgin

Hi
i have installed Ubuntu and are using Pidgin for messenger, but i can't connect when I'm in school. think they are blocking some ports or something but i don't know witch settings to use. anyone who does?

They are most probably blocking the ports used to connect to the IM server, ask the network admin.

The only thing I can think of off hand is setting up a tunnel with a remote PC but it may get you in trouble if it gets found out.
