Exclamation [Fixed] iTunes + Quicktime help

Quicktime failed to initialize (error -2096).

Quicktime is required to run iTunes

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime three times.

I have also been through the C drive and deleted what the Apple internet support site told me to in relation to Quicktime.

I don't know what to do.

Help?

Hey RichS, welcome to PCHF.

I'm not personally a fan on Quicktime myself, but I use Quicktime Alternative which serves me well. You can download it from here: Free-Codecs.com : QuickTime Alternative 2.2.0 : QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player.

I'm afraid that hasn't done it.

Still says the same thing.

P.S This error comes up when I click on iTunes if I didn't make that clear

Don't tell me your getting the same error message? Can you restart your PC after installing?

The message your receiving (regardless of running iTunes) is a quicktime message. iTunes is only a player for the codec's (Quicktime being one of them) that actually displays .qt movie files on your PC.

Take a look also at the Quicktime website regarding this, aparently well known problem with good old Quicktime: Error -2096 message when opening QuickTime for Windows in Compatibility Mode (Make sure QT isn't running in compatibility mode).

I've found it, finally!

You were along the right lines. My iTunes was running on compatibility mode for a windows 2000.

Thanks for all your help.
