I have a Dell 8400 with 1 GB Ram. The problem is that when I play a movie/video file with Windows Media Player, WMV will buffer up the video and then....nothing. If I don't do anything for about 30 seconds to a minute, the program will lock up and I need to use Task Manager to close it. No error messages, just nothing and locks up. I tried reinstalling Media Player but same results. Happens for online videos (like on CNN) or videos that are downloaded and then played. Some sites use Flash videos. In that case, I can hear the audio but don't get the video. If it helps, I am running XP Home with SP2 and have an ATI Radeon X300 video card.

Any ideas?

You might want to try and re-install the codecs responsible for displaying these video's. You may have a non-Microsoft or dodgy version installed. You can download these from here: Download details: Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later
