Default [Answered] Some speedfan questions

I downloaded Speedfan on my computer and I have a few questions about it, first, what are the first four temperature readings referring to? (Screenshot attached), also, as far as ideal temperatures and fan speeds go, how do mine rate?...should I consider upgrading any of the fans, I have two 80mm fans and one squirrel cage type fan that occupies the card slot above my GFX card.

Your temps seem fine, as far as what fans they are, it depends on what 3-pin slots the fans are connected to, the motherboard should have designation numbers on them, i.e. fan-1, fan-2,...
So just open your case and follow the cables and read the labels on the motherboard (hopefully it has them).

As for the fans, I seriously recommend chucking out all 80mm fans and swapping them for 120mm ones, they're MUCH quieter and move more air.

Hi Zanc, those temps look great.

This is the only thing about Speedfan, it's very difficult without plugging in one fan at a time to know for certain which is which. Any temperature sensor Speedfan is not sure of, it will refer to it as "Temp".

You'll normally find:
- Temp1 = Motherboard,
- Temp2 = CPU (Motherboard Sensor),
- Temp3 = Aux.
^ Temp1 and 2 can sometimes be back to front, but I'm juding by your temps listed there, the above is correct in your case.

You'll always see your HDD's listed properly as "HD1", "HD2" etc.

"Core" is your CPU temperature sensor for each core of the CPU. If you have dual core for example, you'll see Core 0 and Core 1.

I haven't a clue what that "Temp -36" is. Speedfan will pickup and temp sensor it can find. It's not unusual to find one mis-reported as a minus figure.

I've found that -36 is a temperature reading that speedfan cannot understand, it's sortof like an error code, means the temperature reading is missing

Darklord, I'd love to get bigger fans but my case only supports 80mm, I have a few 120s sitting around here and I'd love to use them but that's just how it goes, the case was free so no complaints here....

Ah, gotcha

I'd buy a new case personally, you can find some cheap but fairly good ones on newegg for ~50$ (or less) with some nice 120mm openings (and no 80mm ones). I switched cases just to get rid of the noisy 80mm fans
