Hi welcome to PCHF are you running the latest internet explorer? If not try to update it to the latest one and then try the realplayer update again

Thanks for the reply - I am running Internet Explorer Version 7 (version 7.0.5730.11). Another thing I have noticed is although I have downloaded the latest driver for the GeForce FX 5200 graphics card I use the Microsoft Update website is lists the previous version of the driver as a download. Why doesn't it recognise the new driver I downloaded?

I'm wondering if it is related to your internet security settings or some thing like that because this is when you seem to have the issue right? when real player access the internet explorer

Im not sure the problem is related to Internet Explorer - if it is because of the security settings which settings should I look at?

I highly doubt it's related to security settings, try installing the driver Windows Updates shows and see if it works, it might be a driver that's more compatible with your system.

Also, would it be possible to get a bit more info about your system? Also, do you really want RealPlayer? It's pretty bloated and there are a few "realplayer alternatives" that let you play all the RealPlayer extensions/files but without all the bloatware that it comes with, would you be interested in that? I use Free-Codecs.com :: Download Real Alternative 1.60 : Real Alternative will allow you to play RealMedia files without having to install RealPlayer/RealOne Player
