Default [Resolved] Trouble Uninstalling Acrobat 8 Pro Trial . . .

I've got this posted on the Adobe forum site as well, but I have more faith someone will answer me here before they answer me there!

My trial copy of 8 expired, but when I tried to uninstall it, I got a 1913 error aborting the uninstall because it couldn't find the setup folder and required file to do it.

The folder and file was there right where they ought to be the first few times I tried uninstalling the program. Today, I try again, but---the SetUp folder is missing completely.

Normally, I wouldn't care. I'd just let the program sit until I could buy it.

Thing is, the expired trial will not quit interfering with my normal use of the program I already own--version 5. I get constantly nagged to buy or input my code for 8. All I have to do is mouseover a pdf file, and up pops the nag. Doesn't matter if I actually wanted to open a pdf or not. Even if I did want to open one, it doesn't let me open them with my version 5 or even the Reader 8. As soon as I click Quit on the nag screen, the files disappear.

I have to hit Quit a half dozen times in succession in order to lose the nag--but often it persists for long minutes.

I'm not happy at being this pressured to upgrade. I should be able to use the program I already own once the trial is expired. I'm an author who compiles her novels in pdf as eBooks. Not being to work on them or view them even is making me crazy. I'm so exasperated I just want to hit delete. Wouldn't matter if it messed up my PC--I'm ready to wipe the drive just to get rid of this annoyance!

I'd so appreciate an answer to this problem!

Now, that I come to think of it, this isn't the first folder and file to mysteriously disappear.

The read only box is already unchecked. I did change one file to open with Reader, to see if it would work, but it doesn't stop that nag screen from appearing!

Thing is, I have hundreds of pdfs on my PC, I'd be the rest of my life changing how they open.

But, that's not the only issue. It's hindering my use of Acrobat 5 to edit my pdfs. I can't even choose it to open anything, never mind work with it.

I went into the Adobe folder, chose Acrobat 5 but 5 doesn't show up in the Open with box. Only Pro 8 shows up. I'm clicking out of the nag screen even as I type. Have been all the while I post here. Or do anything else anywhere else . . .

If I can't find a workable solution soon, I'm going to just back up today's work, and wipe. It's holding up my doing anything with pdf, and as an author, I do a lot with them.

'Preciate your response! I still haven't gotten one from Adobe's forum, and I posted there hours ago!

Yes, I did. It's all good in that area now. I can open all of the files in the Reader. The Nag Screen still pops up, of course.

I tried to open version 5 and Yippeee!!! This time it wasn't closed down by 8. I'll be dancing with deeper joy if it will open every time now! Again . . . TNS pops again!

I still want to get rid of the version 8 install, though. I did a search for the Setup folder that was there yesterday and is gone today. Besides the control panel Add/Remove method, is there another way I can uninstall this thing? Or will I run into the same error message?

Still nothing from Adobe . . . Still planning a wipe . . .

It's not the Reader, though, that I want to get rid of. It's the Acrobat 8 Professional trial I'd like to see gone. But, I bookmarked the page . . . just in case!!!

I finally got a response from somebody at the Adobe site suggesting I reinstall and then try to uninstall . . .

Okayyyy . . . Windows won't let me do that saying I don't have enough space on C drive. I need to free up some. Well, wouldn't you know--Access is denied to the drive and folders where I have them stored!!! Aughhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I can't uninstall anything!

What do you think--wipe it?
