Default image recovery from old digi-cam

i've had my Fujifilm MX-1200 digi-cam for about 8 years now and have taken 100's of photos with it, all of which i had stored on my old PC. a couple of years ago my PC gave up and i was told there was no way i could salvage any of the photos off it, and seeing as i hadn't baked them up onto disc, i was gutted. a friend of mine suggested trying to retrieve the images from the memory card that is in the camera but i have had no,luck so far with all the programs i have tried. the problem is, the camera doesn't connect with a USB, it's like a 9-pin connection with 2 screw-ins on either side. it doesn't show up in My Computer as a removable drive, it uses it's own software (picture shuttle) to download the images. does anyone know of any software that might be able to scan the memory card with such a connection? i have attached a picture of the lead that connects my digi-cam.

thanks.

lee.

Hello vancreef,

Here are a couple of options for you. The cable you have is a serial cable so you need the software and drivers which you should get from the following link.

Fujifilm: Support & Contact Center: Download Drivers & Software: MX-1200

Also since your camera uses SmartMedia cards you can buy a usb adapter very reasonable.

Good Luck

problem is, according to Fujifilm, the driver will not work will Windows XP. just found this on PC World website,
ZIO - DAZZLE PORTABLE XD & SMARTMEDIA CARD READER
it's only £10, do you think it would work with the memory card i have and then i could scan it for deleted images?

The ZIO should suit the purpose well. The links below are for freeware programs to help you with the photo recovery process. As with any program of this nature you should use with care.

Photo-Freeware.net - Digital Photo Recovery Download
Digital photo recovery - ZAR image recovery function
VAIOSoft, Inc - Recovery Manager - Photo Recovery, Data Reocovery, Music Recovery , Movie Recovery for Digital Flim Medias

i have since been told that, due to the fact that the memory card is only small (in memory), there's little hope that any images will be succesfully recovered as the space has been over-written numerous times, and only memory that has not been over-written can produce deleted image recovery. is this true?

Unfortunately that is true vancreef. The most you can hope for is to retrieve the photos you now have on the card and any not overwritten by the present batch of photos. It does not matter how small or how big the card is. One thing I must touch on as I look back at your original post is that whoever told you that the photos on your old PC was gone mislead you. There is a very good chance that you could have gotten your photos off the harddrive just short of the drive being destroyed. There are services that recover data tho it can be pricey. If the drive was working then all that was needed was another computer and data retrieval software. Please forgive this old man for not completely reading your post.
