Default Winamp & Yahoo...

I know this might not be the right place to come to for this problem, but I haven't found help anywhere else. I use Yahoo Messenger 8.1 and the latest version of WinAmp. There are various plugins that allow friends that I chat with see what song I'm listening to on Winamp. All of a sudden it quit working. I have tried un-installing yahoo and winamp, and have tried every plugin available for this and none of them work. This leads me to believe that there is a problem outside both programs. Possibly something blocking the communication between the two. If so, is this going to be a problem elsewhere on my computer that I haven't noticed yet. Any ideas on how to fix this or troubleshoot it would be great. Is there any settings or anything that I should be looking for.

PS - This was working as of about 4-5 days ago....it just stopped.

Thanks in advance for your help...if you can....

Dose

Sometimes-- in order to get rid of every last bit of programs you want to uninstall, you need to run a registry-cleaner like the one in my sig (free-- and easy-to-use)
OR... go into regedit/ track down the install folder for the programs/right-click/delete/reboot.

Winamp is Nullsoft-- look for that
Yahoo's messenger would probably have Yahoo as the folder-name

Naturally you want to be careful when editing the registry.
Then try the re-install. Many software UNinstallers are very sloppy-- leaving bits and pieces of the apps behind-- which can cause conflicts.

Ok, that makes sense....but 2 questions: Should I uninstall and then do the reg clean? And I'm still wondering why all of this quit working in the first place. I would think there is some general communication protocol that exist between Winamp (or the plugin) and Yahoo that suddenly disappeared.....just doesn't make sense.

Most methods of retrieving winamp song information I have seen involve hooking the window and reading the window text so there really is no 'protocol' and for it to stop working is strange.

Yes to try the uninstall trick-- you need to remove first then run the registry scan-- allow it to fix what it finds. Then reboot-- this removes the remaining remnants ... then reinstall.

Software does silly things sometimes-- I have a saying... "There's nothing worse than a confused computer"
