Default office outlook

I have been asked if it is possible to set up outlook on a home network? what they want to be able to do is access outlook on all computers as they have a diary they work with. they also want to be able to add, edit and so on in the diary but want it to to change on all computers. and also emails to goto all computers instead of the one at the time of opening.
i am guessing the best way would actually to network all of office, so everythning that is done changes on all.

Is this possible?

if not, is there such software that allows this kind of thing. basically a network diary that all can access, alter and so on? or a web site that you can use for this purpose?

cheers

Hey Steve,

Very interesting question. Now I have a few for you. How many people have to be able to access this file at once? Is this an individual who wants to be able to gain access whereever they are, or is this a small group who need to interact from their prospective locales? Who is the email provider? If you can setup the online email to save a copy on the server, you can download it to however many computers you like, by setting up the same profile on every computer. Using the Group Schedules could be one way of using Outlook to coordinate the different PCs to act as one.

Looking forward to your reply,

ok...there are 3 computers, so i guess as many as 3 people to view/access all at the same time. However, they also want to be able to view if they go away from he office via one of the laptops they take with them.
the email provider is a tough question. they have a web site and guessing they use the email address from that, but obviously still need there isp to actually conect via, which i believe is bigpond.
i dont think they want to have the same user however on all the computers.

Now i was wondering, they are prepared to buy software if need be. would the new office 2007 do what they want in a simpler way that they can understand?

i dont want to have to set up a virual network or server pc etc. just basically set up a network as you would any home network, then set up outlook so they can all use and all new information will be shown on all and they can all edit if and when.

however, where i am struggling is also that one pc runs via modem adsl connection, one via either g3 wireless, or bigpond wireless (no modem straight to the sky) and th eother will hopfully be connected the same way (though i couldnt get this to connect)

i know may seem a little vague, but they gave me so much info on what they want that they lost me on occasions, so i am trying to simplify it as much as possible.

Cheers
Steve

Hey Steve,

There are a lot of different ways that this could be done.

One way would be to purchase an application called Groove, it has all of the capabilities you are talking about and more. My only problem is that they were just purchased by Microsoft, and only the beta is available right now. You should check it out tho, it is a free trial, and see if it suits your customers.

Sharepoint, is another possibility.

I really think that an online collaberative application will be the best answer for your customer's requirements.

You could also use the Rules and Alerts Wizard to require mail that needs to be seen by each individual user to be forwarded to a created Distribution List.

You didn't specify if all of their mail had to be seen everywhere, or if just certain mail needed to be shared. Having an online application also resolves the issue of setting up a server.

Looking forward to your reply,
