Hi,
I'm new here and I'm not very computer savvy and would appreciate any help you can offer. My grandson sent me a copy of his turbo tax program in my email, I've saved it to my computer, but I can't open it. It's a zip file and when i click on it, it says setup.exe. When I click on the setup, I get this message "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." My grandson gave me a "key" to use when it opened, that gave me permission, but I can't get to the place to enter the number. Your help is appreciated.
Thank you

you have to unzip it first. when you are viewing the files, there should be something that says unzip these files, or you may have to get an unzipping program.

Hi,
Thanks for responding. When I clicked on it, it opened winzip, then I clicked on setup.exe, then it told me I couldn't access it. so I guess I unzipped it. |

did you actually keep clicking next until it unzipped? it should then open up a new window with the same files, but unzipped this time and you'll be able to open up setup.exe.
this process can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on how many files there are and how big they are and whatnot. |

HI Tootsie, Welcome to PCHF.
If you don't know what you are doing with this program, then you better just go to a tax accountant very soon or whatever you have done in the past and figure it out for next year. The fact that this program is in a Zip Archive tells me that it might have been pirated. Well, actually, if your son is giving it to you, then it probably is pirated. |

well it is probably not legal for him to send it to his father, but his son probably owns the original version. i bought Paint Shop Pro XI over christmas but left it at home. my dad sent me the zip files and key code to install the software from home. nothing wrong with that.

it's illegal piracy and the thread should be closed.
read this: TurboTax - License Agreement for Tax Year 2006 TurboTax® Software and Services excerp: Intuit Inc.
