Default [Answered] Creating .reg files ...

Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this question

I was wondering if anyone knows a good program that makes it easy to compare two different registry files and then dump the changes into a .reg file. I am trying to run programs from a USB drive on multiple computers, so rather than install it and uninstall it, I could just add the necessary registry entries to the computer then run the program off the folder in the USB drive. I guess I would also need a file comparison done at the same time if the program installs files in multiple folders outside the main program folder.

I've seen this done before. I've even seen it a couple times where they had a .reg file that removed the registry entries once you were done using the program.

It would be so nice to be able to create these files myself but not have to become a registry guru

Thanks in advance

I think the only way you are going to be able to do this is to become a registry guru. You need to learn how the registry works before you go in there; I myself don't really trust any automated tool, preferring to do the work manually, because the registry is something that you don't want mucked up.

What type of applications are you running from your usb key?

I was hoping to run virus/spyware scanners mostly. However, I'm sure it could come in handy with all kinds of types of applications.

Yeah, I think the easiest way would just keep the tools on the key in .exe form, and install them that way. That is how I do it at work, it doesn't take too long to install, and this way it's done correctly, not piecemeal, and when you are dealing with the registry, that's usually the best thing. IMO, of course.
