Unhappy Uninstall/Install Software Problems

I have an HP Officejet 4215 All-In-One Printer & an HP Scanjet 4370. They r not working together properly. HP advised me 2 uninstall both of them & just start fresh. I have went back & forth w/HP via e-mail 4 about 3 months now. We have tried every possible uninstall, then install that they could possibly think of. Finally, they suggested I order new CD's 4 the 2 products & try installing from them.

By the way, these 2 products both worked on my PC 4 the 1st few months - 'til after some updates - both from HP & W's. & MS.

(I have a W.'s XP Prof. ver. 2002, Serv. Pack 2, Intel Pentium III Processor)

I should also make u aware that I have a Post re: Installer under "General Software". I have .msi files in 2 different Installer folders, but I don't know if either of them r W.'s Installer 3.1.

I also have a Post under "W.'s XP/2000" re: Component Services, under .NET Utilities, Com+ Explorer, & DCOM Config. (212 objects) - these are all empty.

B4 I order the CD's, I have a few ?'s I hope someone may have answers 4. They r as follows:

After trying my original CDs, HP had me try 2 download software from their web-site. I still got erros such as:

1. C:\Prog.Files\Hewlett-Packard/Digital Imaging\Skins\oo1\skin.xml - does not exist.

2. Cannot open HP Director - C++ Runtime Error

3. When downloading, not installing, just downloading from their web-site, am I supposed 2 close my Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, & Firewall programs? Or do u only close them when u r installing (after u close out of the Internet)??

4. I use Firefox 2, not Internet Explorer 6, but that should not make a difference, should it?

5. I changed my Theme in Firefox. Under 'Tools', 'Content', 'Fonts & Colors', I changed the "Default Font" 2 Kristen ITC, "size" 12.

Then I clicked on 'Advanced' & on "Fonts for:" - left it as it was - Western,
"Proportional" - left it as it was - Serif, "size" 12,
"Serif" - changed 2 Kristen ITC,
"Sans-Serif" - changed 2 Kristen ITC,
"Monospace" - changed 2 Kristen ITC, "size" 12.
Left the check mark on 'Allow pages to choose their own fonts, etc.'.
"Character Encoding - Default Character Encoding:" - left it as it was - Western (ISO-8859-1).
Do any of these changes or by not changing some of them make any difference in the downloads?

6. In "Control Panel", under "Firewall Settings", should 'MS Management Console' & 'Files & Settings Transfer Wizard' be checked as Exceptions? Would that be affecting the downloads if these 2 are not checked as Exceptions?

7. When HP Software Updater appeared, it advised 2 upgrade 2 latest version, however, I received an error message stating 'failed - unable to process request at this time. Try again later.' (HPSU-2008).

8. Receive 'hpqelsk.exe' error when try 2 open HP Director.

9. Receive 'corrupted shell32.dll file' error sometimes, not always.

10. I thought I was up-2-date on all Java updates. However, I have receive a Runtime error re: ICA Java Client - "Object expected error" which I guess relates 2 the function of IP Address. Do not understand!

11. Another Event Warning I receive - 'ID#1015 - TraceLevel parameter not located in Registry. Default trace level used is 32.' Do not understand this one either!!

12. The following are the uninstall steps given by HP:
a. Add/Remove Programs
b. Remove entries from Printers/Faxes/Scanners folders
c. Remove entries from Registry
d. Remove folders from C:\Windows
e. Use the 'on-line download uninstall utility'
f. Use 'W.'s (Installer) Cleanup Cleanup utility' - when I tried 2 run this, I got an error that "W.'s Script Host is unabled!" Therefore, I could not use this utility. How, when, why & where did this get disabled??? Is it supposed 2 b unabled? If not, can someone explain 2 me how 2 fix it?

13. Lastly, r there updates I do not have on my PC that could b causing the installs not 2 work?
- Do I have a block out there somewhere causing these problems?
- I am still using the FAT32 Syst., should I b using NTFS?
- Do I have a problem w/a Server?
- Do I have a Service turned off that may b affecting this?

If anyone needs more info, let me no. As u can see, I tried 2 add every tid-bit of info that I could think of but I may have missed some things.

Please someone out there - HELP???!!!!

(NOTE: I do not have a problem ordering the new CDs like HP suggested, I just think there is something weird going on inside my PC & even w/installing from new CDs, I have a feeling I might still have problems. Maybe I'm wrong here too!)

doesn't the AIO have a scanner installed? Or is that a different model I am thinking of?

Yes, the AIO has a scanner installed but it is not near as good as the Scanjet 4370!

Does that help???
