Everytime I try to open anything In My Docs it crashes and gives me an error report. I have tried scanning for spyware and virus's and nothing works. Ive tries system restore and I never use that and it still keeps crashing. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Hello AdRev,
Welcome to PCHF. Only My Documents, no other folder has this problem? This suggests you have a file saved in this folder that is possibly corrupt, contains a virus or malware. Do you remember the last thing that was saved in this folder? |

No but even If I did I cannot access for more than a second before the window crashes and it closes. I can access any other folder in My docs but this one. I may just format my pc actually. Is there a way of doing this without unistalling windows?

No, the definition of format means to wipe the disk clean. There's no way to exclude Windows from a format.
I have some things you can try. Since it's probably attempting to bring up your document/image/video up as a thubnail, this is normally where a lot of problems occur, if there is a file that explorer cannot read. Option (1) - Go to My Computer and go to View and select Details. - Go to Tools, Folder Options, and select the View tab. Click Apply to All Folders and click the OK button. - Try to access My Documents. Option (2) -or- See if you can access your files in Safe Mode. - Press [F8] before the Windows Startup screen, and select safe mode. - Your My Documents will be saved in c:\documents and setting\yourname\My Documents Option (3) -or- If your still unable to access your My Documents, this option requires a little more time an patience. - Go to Start, run, and type in cmd - From the command window, type cd "my documents" - Type in dir to see your list of files you have saved here. - Type mkdir temp which will create a temporary folder called "Temp" in you My Documents folder. - Type move "filename" temp to move one of your files to this new temp folder, and see if you can access your My Documents folder. If not keep doing this until you find the file which is causing your problems. |
