Default [Fixed] Data Execution Prevention

Hi there,

Hope someone can help me out!

Whenever I click on explorer or try to access any folders on the C: or E: (second hard disk) drives, I get the message:

"Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows

To help your computer, windows has closed this program"

I have gone on to the microsoft site and read up about this but to be honest, I haven't really got a clue what it's talking about or how I can solve this.

Could anyone possibly explain what might be the issue and how I can find out what's causing this.

Really appreciate it!

Cheers!

Rick

Hello rsedsy,

Welcome to PCHF.

- Go to My Computer, Control Panel, System.
- Click on the Advanced tab, and click Settings under "Performance".
- Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab, and you will see the following window:

- Make sure your settings match the widow above, then Apply and reboot your PC.

Right OK.

- Go back to the Performance Options window I showed earlier, Data Execution Prevention.
- Change option to Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
- Finally, put a check in Windows Explorer, and OK those changes.
- Reboot, and test!
