Hi everyone I am new to this site & do not know if I am posting correctly or not.
Firefox not downloading 7 July 06
For the past couple of weeks I haven't been able to download programs or updates. I have an emachine T6522, AMD Athlon 64 2.2GB, 200 GB HD, 1GB mem, Radeon express 200, Lite-on DVD -/+RW recorder, DSL internet connection, XP media edition & firefox 1.5.0.4. When I try to down load anything it may say starting & I wait for 5 or 10 minutes & nothing happens or it starts to download & it works for 2% or to 25% & pauses i Click on pause & it turns to resume & nothing happens. Off to the right side it may say any one of the following OPEN, REMOVE or CANCEL. What do I have to do to Get my downloads onto my PC? I have tried Internet Explorer and it doesn't work either it just shows the paper going from the globe to the folder & nothing in the transfer bar is happening. I have been using firefox 1.5 since December 2005, with no problem until recently.

Let's first have a look to see if it isn't a malware problem. If you click on the "Prework" link below in my sig , follow those instructions there , and posts back with the 2 resulting log files then we'll start with those.

I tried The Malware solution and 9 items were cleaned they were all cookies.
The following is one of them they are all simalar with different items.
(mozilla.22:C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xvm9nd1w.default\coo kies.txt -> TrackingCookie.Atdmt : Cleaned.) I tried to download with firefox, IE & Opera to no avail. I don't know what to try next?

A good thing to do after version updates is clear your Ignore list and re-add them, as the format of detected items sometimes changes.

Virustotal offers a free service for scanning suspicious files using several antivirus engines.
Use the upper textbox to select and send any suspicious file to Virustotal for a scan. If you wish, you can also send files using your email client. In that case, please follow these steps:

• Create a new message with gt3('virustotal.com?subject=SCAN','scan','virustot al.com');scan@virustotal.com as destination address of your email.
• Write SCAN in the Subject field (write SCAN- if you do not want to distribute your sample to any AV company).
• Attach the file to be scanned. Such file must not exceed 10 MB in size. If the attached file is larger, the system will reject it automatically.
• You will receive an email with a report of the file analysis. Response time will vary depending on the load of the system at the time of placing your request.
