Default Firefox I can't download updates or programs

Hi joe5,
I hjt the ScreeNotes 2.0 & rebooted, I found the ScreeNotes 2.0 icon in the taskber just four positions to the left of the time, also there was a yellow note ready to right to in the middle of the screen I deleted that & the icon remained in the taskbar.

The Hijack This dialog box stated before I rebooted:
04 - Startup: ScreeNotes 2.0 = C:\Program Files\SreeNotes 2.0\ScreeNotes 2.0. exe
Detailed information on the item 04:
This part of the scan checks for several suspicious entries that autoload when Windows starts.Autoloading entries can
load a regitry script,VB script or JavaScriptfile, possibly causing the IE Start Page, Search Page , Search Bar and search Assistant to revert back to a hijacker's page after a system reboot. Also .aDLL file can be loaded that can hook into several parts of your system.

Infected examples:

regedit C:\windows\system\sp.tmp./s
KERNELL32.VBS
C:\windows\temp\install.js
rundll32 C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\newdotnet4_5.dll.NewDotNetStartup

(Action taken: Registry value is deleted)

OK
Thank you, warren

So it was still there after fixing it with HJT and rebooting?

Lets try this:

Download Roguescanfix from here: Download it to your desktop.
Doubleclick roguescanfix.exe
Click the 'install' button.
This will create a new folder on your desktop called Roguescanfix.
Open that folder and doubleclick: Run.bat

Note: This tool needs internet connection because it downloads an additional file to let the tool work properly.
If your firewall gives an alert, allow it instead of blocking it.
In case you still get the message BFU.exe is not present, download BFU.zip from here.
Unzip it and place BFU.exe in the Roguescanfix-folder. Then doubleclick Run.bat again.

The tool will uninstall some programs and delete related files and registrykeys.
When some files won't get deleted, it will ask you to reboot your system to delete the files after reboot.
Please make sure the uninstall of the programs are finished before you click Yes to reboot.

After the reboot please post back with a new HJT log. Also let me know how the computer is running and whether or not the problem is still present.

Default Firefox I can't download updates or programs

Hi joe5,
The computer has another problem in addition to Firefox downloading. The email does not work now, it states "failed to connect to pop3.fronttiernet.net" and it will not connect to Internet Explorer "page cannot be displayed.
I got as far as 19% of downloading the Magix Video editing program which is 14GB of a 71GB download today. Then it said cancelled & I tried a few more times starting over & it didn't go anywhere except to say cancelled.
When I booted up this afternoon my Grisoft AVG antivirus program said it updated. Which I thought was good news but it didn't continue with my other problem.
Last night I deleted some programs that I never used along with ScreeNotes 2.0, I got sick of it coming up on bootup.
The other program that I use "Word Perfect" seems fine.
The hjt report from last night follows.

Youre HJT log is clean. Have you maybe used LIUtilities\SpeedUpMyPC to tweak internet settings?

Default Firefox I can't download updates or programs

Hi joe5;
I did run SpeedUpMyPC & did the Internet parts & it didn't seem to fix the downloads for Firefox, IE or Opera. the program that I was trying to download
was MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 11 and I went to a friends house & he used Firefox & downloaded the 71 MB onto a CD disk. I now have it running on my PC.
I also had a hard time getting WinsockXPFix to download but after many tries it finaly did. This was before I went to my friends house. I ran it and rebooted the PC but it was no better I could not download.

Thanks Warren
