Default Keyboard Layout Creator unable to build the windows installer package

I downloaded Microsoft's Keyboard Layout Creator from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
and used it to create a keyboard layout.

I then wanted to make a change but when I tried to build a new installation package I got the error "The Keyboard Layout Creator was unable to build the windows installer package"

I deleted the initial one I created from the system32 directory but that didn't help. I tried creating one with a new name - same problem. I do get a layout\layout.dll created before the error, but no .MSI file.

If I look in Control Panel, Regional & language options, I do not see the initial keyboard layout. I do have .NET v1 installed.

Ideas appreciated.

Hi Eugene,

My welcome to PCHF, I don't believe that I've had the pleasure.

Have you completely uninstalled and reinstalled the program?

Have you tried same for the keyboard?

I would try an SFC scan, Start, Run, type in
sfc /scannow
Hit enter, you will need the OS CD in the drive for this.

Just in case one of your system files got corrupted.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Hi LGW, thanks for the reply. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Keyboard Layout Creator. Not sure I understand what you mean by "Have you tried same for the keyboard?" How can I uninstall a keyboard ?

I tried SFC/scannow but was asked for the Windows XP SP2 installation CD. I loaded this but was told it was not the correct CD, so I loaded the same CD the system was installed from (XP SP1) but the same message came up. So it seems I do have files in the DLL cache which do not match those in the system32 directory, but I am not sure what I can do about them.

Looks like LGW means to ask if you have uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboards driver.

And did the SFC mention the file names of the files it needed?

Please explain how I can uninstall a keyboard driver. I think that it the crux of my problem. If I (on Windows XP) go to Control panel, Regional & Language Options, Languages tab, Details button, Settings tab, Add... button, under the keyboard layout pull-down menu, I see there is a 'US (Custom)' and a 'United States - International (Custom)' option which I believe I am responsible for putting there when I ran the Installer package created by the Keyboard Layout Creator. How can I remove them ?

Thanks.

They can be removed from Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
