Default [Resolved] - Smartsound

Even Pinnacle and smartsound can't solve this one (including the guys in India) Using Studio Plus 9 and even bought 10. Smartsound will not preview and will not work when added to video. Have reinstalled Quicktime and Quick tracks. This has been going on for almost a solid month. I have reinstalled Studio 4 times and smartsound more than I can remember. I am at a loss, am I just too Darn old (64)to work with these new fangled computers (G) I love Pinnacle and have had no problem for three years using version 7,8,9,and now 10.
ANY HELP and I would be most grateful.

Hi there Reddiewoody and welcome to PCHF,


We have a great team of people here, I am sure we can put our heads together and try to concure this problem.

Just a couple of questions:
  • Have you ever had this working or has it been a problem from the start?
  • If it used to work do you remember installing any updates or drivers prior to the problems starting?
I will start doing some research for you on the web, if any other users have experienced this problem feel free to share your thoughts.

Hay Zimbo, I am sure suprised at the fast response (used to the Service Techs at Pinnacle I guess) Yes it was working for the past two yes as Studio Plus version 9. I then bought version 10 (mistake) and then that said I had to update my Graphics and Bios. I did my graphics only(tried reversing it but I had not saved my old version). I kept both Studio versions on my computer to use. I updated DirectX and several other things. I had Picasa and that stopped working and I tried everything to get that going and discovered the problem was Quicktime. Finally got that corrected and could use Picas again. Still no smartsound in preview and timeline. Tried system restore, but no luck.

Hmmm alright, it may be something to do with the video card drivers, could you post the exact make/model of your card for us.
  • Also do you have the original CD that came with your graphics card?
  • Does studio 9 still work properly or does it happen to both 9 and 10?

My computer was a HP from Costco. The CD was for ME which I later UPGRADED to XP and it worked fine for the past 3 years or so (I think I tossed the CD for ME). This problem is the same with Studio version 9 or 10.
Now they (India guys)want me to do another reinstall but dump Quicktime first.
I don't think they have any idea what the problem might be.

A complete format and reload would definately solve the problem but that is the easy way out, lets see whether your video card/drivers are causing this problem.

Open device manager and go to the properties of your display adapter, click on the driver TAB and then click Roll back driver. Once finished you may have to restart your PC. Then check your software and see if it works.

Alternatively does your PC have an onboard VGA card? If it does then remove your geforce card and boot up using the onboard, once the drivers install try to use your programs and see if they work.
