 Hey M,

I think we are waiting to hear back on what downloading those other codecs will do.

At this point, as we don't know which codecs are conflicting, I would determine which codecs you want to be using, uninstall All codecs listed, do another round of CCleaner and RegSupremePro, and then install the codecs you want to use.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW,

Hmm..my other problem is I'm not even sure which codecs I DO want to be using. A lot of the ones that have been suggested to me by friends don't seem to work for the vids I'm watching, and clearly nothing that I tried the other night worked for me.. I'm starting to run out of ideas! Do you have any suggestions?

In the meantime, I'm going to uninstall everything again and run those programs and I will get back to you.

Thanks again!
M

LGW and Joe...

I had a bit of an epiphany this evening, and managed to come to the conclusion that the video I was trying to watch was a dual-language AVI. So I found this site: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dual-audio.htm which sort of outlines the opposite problem to mine. Anyways, I decided to download that Morgan Stream Switcher and it allowed me to choose the English audio as opposed to the French - problem solved.

Now, I'm still left without a video codec. As you can imagine, I'm extremely skeptical as to which ones I should download as I don't want to create another interference. I did download DivX but when I try and play my vid the audio is very choppy.

Any other codec suggestions? I think I want to stay away from codec packs.

Thanks
M

 Hi M,

We have a guy on staff who seems to be a major wiz when it comes to codecs. I'll PM him and ask him to have a look at your thread. He may have some good suggestions. He has been really busy lately, so if it takes him a day or two, don't be discouraged, he's a wonderful guy, and I know he would be happy to help out.

Hi Antiquerose, Welcome to the site!

Since you seem to have solved the dual audio problem. I recommend re-installing the All-in-one Codec-Pack. Allow it to update itself and you should be fine.

Funny though that the DivX codec was choppy, it's one of the better mpeg4 codecs i've tried. Anyway, I personally use the All-in-One pack and recommend it. Make sure you fully uninstall DivX first just in case and i also recommend staying away from the DivX Player.

Hey there antiquerose

Try double_a_ron steps first and see if they help, I personally don't have much experience with the All-in-One codec pack, but if double_a_ron recommends it then it must be good.

Codecs are a major headache as you are finding out..

I recommend you do the following:So after uninstalling the codecs, reboot your machine and install the K-lite pack, during installation I want you to scroll down the list of "custom selection" and enable mpeg demuxer and anything under the dvd decoder.

Once this has finished restart your computer and see if you can play your files properly.

DVD problems

This is going to be an issue, there aren't any 'free' codecs out there that allow you to play DVD's through WMP (not that I can find anyway)

There are a whole lot of the market:
  • The DVD XPack
  • Cyberlink
  • Intervideo
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...02april15.mspx

Normally DVD drives come with Cyberlink Power DVD, did you get one of these disks?

I was lucky enough to get WinDVD 5 with my MOBO, I don't like PowerDVD at all ( I got it with my DVD Writer ). If you ever have to buy DVD software I recommend Intervideo's Win DVD.

The link to the All-in-one pack is here.
