Default [Answered] Is XP Home Edition Multilingual ?

Hi. I am a new member, (registered yesterday) and a complete newbie to Windows - not to computers though, 20+ years using the 'fruity' OS. My problem is twofold. First off, as I said, a complete newbie to Windows and secondly, the version XP Home is in Japanese - I bought an HP Compaq nx6120 here in Japan for my wife. She is totally inexperienced with computers. I'm gonna have to teach her.

I'll get to the point. Is there a language option in this version which would enable me to switch to English? I've searched the control panels, but no joy.

Any help would be greatly aappreciated.

Good question. I think you have a Japanese version there and you will need to purchase the English version as a seperate product. Ironically, I do know that there is a Multilanguage User Interface as an add on to Windows XP English version...just in case you miss the Japanese...

Unfortunately all versions of windows come in one language only unless you purchase, as hengis mentioned an add-on for 'special' languages such as japanese and chinese

Thanks for the info. It is as I feared. Plan B. Buy the E version of XP and install it onto an external HD. Boot from that disc and begin the learning process, switching between int. and ext. discs.

BTW, you asked if I was doing anything interesting over here. Not really. I teach English in public high schools. The people are good to work with - really dedicated to what they're trying to do - and the holidays are great.

Happy New Year

Thanks for the message. I feared so after wading through the Japanese dialogue boxes. Time for Plan B.

Cheers and a Happy New Year
