Default Unable to remove Kazaa, doesn't seem spyware-related.

I'm truly sorry if this is the wrong area, but I wasn't sure as to whether I should post here or in the spyware forum.

That said, I followed the regular directions to removing Kazaa: going to add/remove programs, taking out all of the subsequent files, then trying to remove kazaa 3.0.

However, that's where I was stuck. When I try to remove kazaa, I get a box with the following in it:

"Setup has encountered an error. Please do the following:
- Close any running programs
- Empty your temporary folder
- Check our internet connection (Internet-based Setups)
Then try to run the setup again. Error Code -6001"

I followed those instructions, but I'm not sure what it means by "check your internet connection."

Now, I'm not *too* inept when it comes to computers, but I'm at a loss as to what to do now. Any help would be appreciated, even if it's to point me in a different direction.

Hi ther Knight Wolfe , welcome to PCHF.

Let's try the easy way first , download Kazaabegone and see if you can remove it with that:

Thanks, it seems to have removed a bit of stuff - but unfortunately kazaa is still there, as is "The Best Offers," a stupid popup program.

That said, the error changed, so there seems to be some progress. It now says this when I try to add/remove Kazaa:

"Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\RunTime\070 1\Intel32\Ctor.dll
The specified module could not be found."

Did you manage to get rid of Kazaa with those instructions?

If not , give this app a go:

http://dtecnet.purestatic.com/faq.html

Before fixing things with HijackThis Please Do the Following:

Show hidden files and folders:

For XP:
  1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
  4. If you see a warning message, click Yes.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Click OK.

Have a look in add/remove programs for these:

MediaPipe P2P Loader
p2pnetworks
altpay V2
The Best Offers/TBONBin
MovieLand

and uninstall them if present.

Please download CCleaner

Then boot in safemode (hit f8 when booting up) and fix these with hjt:

O2 - BHO: NavErrRedir Class - {00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MediaPipe P2P Loader] "C:\Program Files\p2pnetworks\mpp2pl.exe" /H
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Notification Utility] "C:\Program Files\altpayV2\altpayV2.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [tbon] C:\Program Files\TBONBin\tbon.exe /r

O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/2...ll/xscan53.cab

Then delete the folders in bold , and run ccleaner.
