Default [Resolved] Upgrading IE 5.0.0 -> 5.0.1

I've got 98 SE installed on one of my drives, and want to upgrade/update the IE 5.0.0 to 5.0.1 (mainly because 5.0.0 is less suppported by some secure web certificates).

What's the best/safest way to do this, and not screw anything up?

Do I just download 5.0.1 and install it, or is there an updater?

Thanks,

Bob

I don't think there is an updater , but you should be able to just instal the newer verion without problems.

But why are you staying with I.E. 5 ? Win98 also supports I.E. 6.

Website testing - CSS testing specifically. My PC's dual boot, with an XP partition and a 98 partition - the former with IE 6, latter with 5.

Though after reading (and then working through) this:
http://www.quirksmode.org/browsers/multipleie.html
I should be able to get by with the XP partition, and install IE 5, 5.5 and 6 on it.

Unfortunately though, this multiple-IE thing is not entirely trouble-free. Can't print from IE 5 or 5.5 under XP - I get some kind of error. Only really need to do this to test my @media print{} styles, but I still need to do it...

I will hunt down a 5.0.1 installer - thanks.

I found a 5.0.1 installer here: http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/5.01

Interesting - I went to Evolt and downloaded 5.0.1 SP 2 (figuring why not get the latest version), installed it, but now IE says I still have 5.00.3314.2101. Though a little lower down it says it's SP2.

What's this mean? Am I running 5.0.1 or did it just update 5.0.0?

Seems like it's 5.0.1 because a) it works with my host's certificate and b) CSS conditional comments are behaving as they should for 5.0.1.

According to this list: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/1645...22120121120120 IE 5.00.3314.2101 is the official version number for 5.0.1.
