I'm thinking of installing Visual Studio.net on my PC. Currenlty I have Visual Studio 6 installed. Is it necessary to un-install version 6 before installing .net?

I believe that this will answer your question, http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/su...l/default.aspx, although it refers only to 2005 versions, I would still take that to mean that, yes, you should thouroughly unistall Version 6 prior to installation of .net.

I have both VB6 and VB .NET installed at the same time on my system, so no you don't have to uninstall VB6 first.
