Default [RESOLVED] My pc's OS wont reinstall..

Hmm, when i try and start my other PC, it gives me the error

"File is missing or corrupt:

C:\windows\system32\config\system"

When i try and repair with the cd, it wont go past this screen:

"The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery functionality.
Type EXIT to quit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

1: C:\WINDOWS

Which Windows Installation would you like to log onto
(To cancel, press ENTER)? "

when i press 1 and enter, it freezes.

I tried to reinstall the OS but it freezes on "checking for previous window setups" or w/e.

Any suggestions?

Switch your PC on and whilst its starting up press F8 - when at the screen with "Safe mode" etc...select "Last known good configuration" and see if selecting that lets you start Windows.

If you are wanting to clean the hard drive of all info and start again - follow this guide.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q255867/

Then go into your bios and select CD rom as primary boot device. Re-boot and setup Windows.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but are you sure the recovery console freezes? Or do you see a black screen with only "c:\" maybe?

That sounds pretty bad then , do you have data on the C: disk that you need to keep?
