Hey guys i am quite new to this forum and was wondering if i could get some help with windows media player.

well this just started happening.

when i double click on an mp3 file in my music it usuallly opens straight away through windows media player but now for some reason i double click and it wont open it just brings up the hour glass quickly and then aks as if nothing has happend the only way a song will open in media player is if i right click and choose open with .... windows media player. (i am using XP Home and windows media player 10)

anyone know how to fix this problem so that the file will automatically open when i click on it, like it used to.

any help much appreciated cheeers.

Ok....

You can assign Windows Media Player to be the player for any file type by doing the following:
1) In Control Panel, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
2) In Folder Options, click the File Types tab.
3) In Registered file types, scroll down to file name extension that you want (for example,? MP3) and select it.
4) In the Details section for the file type (for example, Details for 'WMA') click Change.
5) In the Opens with dialog box, in the Programs area, select Windows Media Player, and then click OK.

When your mp3 file has a Windows Media Player icon, it has been connected to WMP.
If not, it will not open automatically in Media Player.
You can right click on your mp3 file, click Open with, click Choose program, click on Windows Media Player, and click on Always open this filetype with this program (guess that's probably the translation from Dutch XP).
Another last way is to open Windows Media Player, go to extra, options, filetypes, and select mp3. Press apply and then OK. Your mp3 files are now assigned to WMP.
Anyway, those options will do exactly the same as Hengis' way.
